Applied Nano Surfaces (ANS) partners with Precision Finishing Inc.

11/5/2021

Uppsala, Sweden – Applied Nano Surfaces (ANS) has entered a strategic partnership with Precision Finishing Inc., to advance a unique variant of its core Triboconditioning® technology, which is a patented process developed to provide for friction reduction and wear resistance on various steel and cast-iron surfaces. The new variant, known as Triboconditioning® CG (Complex Geometries), is a mechanochemical surface treatment process specifically engineered to address the outer complex geometries of components such as gears. Additional benefits of this treatment include improved surface finish and running in behavior, noise reduction (NVH), minimization and improvement for scuffing, pitting, rolling fatigue resistance as well as extending the product service life.

This partnership brings together the knowledge and expertise of the ANS friction/wear reduction treatment technologies along with the highest-level of mechanical surface finishing processes and functional part optimization from Precision Finishing Inc.

“The synergy and combined expertise of our two companies will effectively service the quickly evolving market that is seeking solutions to enhance component value by increasing life along with minimizing friction, noise and other inherent issues such as pitting and scuffing” said David Chobany, Technology and Sales Director – Americas for ANS.

Customers to benefit from this technology are varied and include major OEs in automotive and truck powertrains, hydraulics, power generation, racing, gears, and many others that produce rotating/sliding/mating components.

In memory of Richard Maskin

10/25/2021

ROYAL OAK, Michigan — Richard Alan Maskin, 74, died on October 16, 2021. Beloved husband of Sharon Maskin, father of Tricia (Dale) Kortes, Bridget (Matt) Genette, David (Christina) Coden, Daniel (Gili Karev) Teweles and Robin (Michael) Berman. Beloved grandfather to Tommy, Aidan, and Sydney Genette, Alyssa and Ryan Kortes, Elliot and Arthur Berman, and Harlan and Maurice Coden. Richard was predeceased by his parents, George and Elaine Maskin. He is also survived by his sister, Julie Maskin, brother Doug (Marie) Maskin, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews.

Richard was a legend of the motorsports world. He began his career as a lot man and mechanic at his family’s Pontiac dealership, before becoming a professional drag racer. In 1972, Richard made the leap to NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) Pro Stock, where he won multiple championships and set national records as a driver and crew chief.

A true mechanical mastermind and entrepreneur, Richard founded Dart Machinery in a humble Oak Park garage in 1981. He spent the next 37 years growing Dart into a globally recognized aftermarket manufacturer that helped to revolutionize the auto industry, with its premium aftermarket cylinder heads and engine blocks. Dart parts have won multiple NHRA Pro Stock world championships and dozens of national events.

Richard was inducted into the Michigan Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2015, and in 2019 was the recipient of a lifetime achievement award from the NHRA in recognition of his contributions to the sport and industry.

No matter his professional successes, Richard was a proud family man. As he slowly took his foot off the pedal of his career, he relished in the accomplishments of his children, and took ultimate pride in his grandchildren.

He will be most remembered for his integrity, gentleness, and generosity. Richard helped countless people out when they fell on tough times, and did so without asking questions or expecting anything in return. His memory is an example to us all.

Sunnen Lease Program puts a Mechanical Bore Gage and precise in-line measurement in your shop

10/1/2021

ST. LOUIS, Missouri — Sunnen’s PG-700/ 800 Series Bore Gages are ideal for fast, simple, economical process control in lean manufacturing environments, combining accuracy with a shop-hardened, all-mechanical design. And, Sunnen’s Gage Leasing Program allows shops of all sizes and production runs to have precision in-line measurement for parts that are honed, ground, bored, reamed or drilled.

The lease program includes maintenance and provides replacement gages, if needed. The popular PG-400 and PG-500 setting fixtures can also be leased to complement the PG gages. The lease renews each year and if the gage is no longer needed at the shop, it is simply returned to Sunnen. If a gage needs to be repaired during the lease, it is quickly swapped out for another unit. This is an easy, economical way for job shops to get in-line precision part inspection, increasing shop capabilities and opening new avenues of business.

The PG-Series gages bring reliable ID gaging to the manufacturing floor with no need for electrical or air connections, making them immune to fluctuations in line voltage or air pressure. A single PG gage can measure a wide range of part diameters, offering greater versatility at a lower cost than dedicated devices, such as air gages.

Created by Sunnen Products, a leader in precision honing, bore sizing and finishing, PG-Series Bore Gages use proven all-mechanical design to “lock in” accuracy, performance and reliability.

Additional information on PG-Series Bore Gages and the Gage Leasing Program is available from Sunnen, sunnen.com.
