AERA Congratulates David Roland, the First to Hold a Cylinder Head and Engine Machinist Certificate

J.Goodman | May 23, 2011

David Roland, a professor of Automotive Technology at Macomb Community College, was first to complete the AERA online training course for Cylinder Head and Engine Machinist certificates. Mr. Roland did it in record time by completing stringent requirements in less than four months.

Mr. Roland expressed a strong desire for this type of meaningful program that not only tests one’s knowledge of engine machining and assembly but teaches and reinforces what a technician may already understand about his or her chosen profession.

David leads the way for many other dedicated engine machinists interested in proving what they know. AERA currently has 21 technicians in the online training program. If interested in adding to your resume of engine experience, contact AERA at 815-526-7600, extension 202 and ask for Karen Tendering — or email karen@aera.org. Karen can answer all your questions and when ready, register you to begin the program.

AERA Engine Builders Association introduces brand new look, broader mission

But that’s not the case for the AERA Engine Builders Association (AERA). The organization, which turns 89 this year, is celebrating with an overhaul, a fresh coat of paint, and an ambitious mission to deliver both the mechanics and the business of the internal combustion engine to a new generation.

“We’re responding to a changing industry,” said AERA president, John Goodman. “The engine building business isn’t just a guy with a garage and a set of wrenches anymore. These days it’s a sophisticated field that requires skill and plenty of training, as well as a fair amount of business smarts.”

As evidence, Goodman pointed to the numerous technological advances that have occurred over the past decade. “Thanks to the help of precision instruments, computerized tools and new manufacturing processes, gas and diesel engines — even ones 30 or 40 years old — run much cleaner, longer and more efficiently than ever before.” Continue Reading »
